Site Dinner & Populace Meeting

Mar 29, 2017 06:30 PM - Mar 29, 2017 09:30 PM

Immaculate Conception Gym, 2934 Marshall Avenue, Maplewood MO, 63143

Arts & Sciences Activity of the Week:

ALSO - SITE DINNER: Current Menu

What is Site Dinner? This is a dinner we hold the first Thursday of every month at the weekly Baronial meeting. It raises money to help pay for our meeting site, and has proven to be an anticipated social evening as well. Every month a different set of volunteers supplies a delicious home-cooked meal. We sell those meals for donations of $5 (or less as suits your budget. We're flexible.) We're also willing to just sell a dessert or a side dish if that's all you want.

The Barony holds weekly populace meetings every Wednesday. Weekly meetings are open to the public. Feel free to just show up if you want to learn more about the Society for Creative Anachronism. About 50 to 100 people attend weekly meetings, so if you are new, be sure and speak up. We might miss you in the crowd. Fighter Practice and Dance Practice are usually held in conjunction with weekly meetings. Feel free to join in, or at least ask lots of questions. You will see people wearing medieval clothes, or what we call garb. It is not necessary to wear garb to attend weekly meetings, but if you would like to borrow some, just ask. We usually wear garb to promote a more medieval atmosphere, but we were all new once too, and we all borrowed clothing and other accoutrements from near total strangers to get started. So don't be shy- come to meeting!

Business meeting for the Baronial populace, all welcome. Open to the public. Includes fighting, dance practice, and classes.

Everyone is welcome, however a call or email beforehand if you are coming would be appreciated (especially if I know what you want to work on- I can have those tools/materials ready).

Fees for materials- will be charged based on projects chosen & materials used. If you have your own tools/material, they are more than welcome. I should have most stuff people will want to use, but odd requests (like gold, boro glass, dichroic glass, etc.) will most likely have to be order & will take time.

Please bring a pair of sturdy shoes (no sandals or flip-flops). Also, please wear clothes that can get dirty/torn/burned etc.

Populace Meeting

May 10, 2017 06:30 PM - May 10, 2017 09:30 PM

Immaculate Conception Gym, 2934 Marshall Avenue, Maplewood MO, 63143

Arts & Sciences Activity of the Week: Rochwen's Painted Floor Cloths - Practical

Fighting

Contact: seneschal@b3r.org

All are welcome for dinner, drinks, and socializing at Live Juke Joint, a family friendly place at the corner of Manchester and Sutton, after meeting.

Thursday Threads

May 11, 2017 06:00 PM - May 11, 2017 08:30 PM

2647 Ann Ave, St Louis, MO 63104, USA

Carrys will be hosting weaving starting at 6 PM. The address is - 2647 Ann Avenue in south St. Louis City. Come on over & join us and bring any fibery stuff that you want to work at. It's open to weavers, those interested in weaving or learning to weave. If you want to do other stringy type things or fiber arts, you're welcome over, too. Don't feel that you have to be a weaver to come over; you're welcome to come over and visit, if you want.

Bring your loom or project to work on. I have many books on weaving (some on spinning, as well as felting) that you are welcome to look at. You're welcome to browse through our books on the fiber arts (or any of our other books - other crafts/artwork; Norse history; archaeological information, etc.). Don't worry about how much you know - we can all learn from one another. Feel free to come over anytime after 6:00 pm. I will have a pot of iced tea in the fridge for people to drink and hot tea in the winter.

My warping board is currently free should someone want/need to use one. I have a couple of ridged heddle looms for loan. There is a 4-shaft table loom (with stand) and a floor loom, that are available to rent. There is also a warping board that can be used here, if you need to use one.

If you have any questions, feel free to either call me at (314) 664-4928, or email me. We are a non-smoking household with 2 cats, so people with allergies, beware. Hope to see you there!

If you would prefer having this at another time or day, let me know. I'll see what we can arrange that better suits your needs.
